The antique original of this hexagonal lantern was manufactured in England during the third or fourth quarter of the 18th century. The cast fleur-de-lis are distinctive, although these stylized irises are most often associated with the French decorative tradition. As far back as the Egyptians, irises have been symbols of royalty. In the 14th century, Charles V of France adopted three golden fleur-de-lis on a blue field for his coat of arms.
Lantern includes 12" of chain and a canopy. Measures 18" tall to the top of the ornamental brass basket.
