The blue mussel is a member of a large "bi-coastal" family -- Arctic to South Carolina and Alaska to California. It eventually develops long, tough threads (byssus) which are used as a defense mechanism and to attach the mussel to rocks, pilings or even to each other.
Finding a place to "attach" proves a challenge for the mussels that must compete with other mussels and algae for "room." Not a problem for this bronze version!
