Michael Healy - Brass Quahog Door Knocker
Mainly known as the chief ingredient in chowder and the chief commercial clam of the Eastern states, the simple quahog was once a form of currency. New England's Narragansett Indians ground the quahogs' hard shells into beads and used them as wampum, or shell currency. (Purple beads were twice as valuable as white.) Any Michael Healy door knocker is a conversation piece, but this one might even stir (and continue) a debate that's been ongoing for nearly 300 years: How is quahog spelled? How is it pronounced? Or is its correct name a "little neck," "cherrystone" or just a "hard-shelled clam?"
Quality Craftsmanship: Each Door Knocker receives a baked polyurethane coating or a statuary lacquer before leaving production. Similar to the protective finish used on cars, these coatings provide a shield against the elements. All of the alloys used by Michael Healy are ideal for outdoor use, allowing you to base your selection on personal preference alone.
